Do people aware with our planet ?
Hi everyone! π
In this journal entry, I would like to share my thoughts on a sustainable issue that we are facing nowadays. The topic is about do people really aware with our planet? π
Hope you guys enjoy reading this blog π
First of all, have you ever wondered what will happen to the earth in the next 10 years? This question always across my mind. I am wondering is there any possibilities for our younger generation to be able appreciate the beauty of nature and the balance of ecosystem. What is our responsibilities to protect our planet?
There are several steps that we can practice in our daily lives. The first one is we must stop using plastic bags. We often heard about NO PLASTIC BAGS campaign in social medias, tv and newspapers yet we still don't mind about it. I still remember when I was 10, there was a campaign about the impact of using plastic bags on our ecosystem on television. I've gained a lot of knowledge from that campaign. Plastic bags is a non-biodegradable product and it took 500 years to decompose. What will happen to our environment if we still kept using it? I just imagine if we collect all the plastic bags and put it in a room, I'm pretty sure after 10 years, the room is still filled with the non-biodegradable plastic bags. From that, I started to bring my own reusable tote bag for grocery. I always remind my family to bring at least reusable bags or eco-friendly bag for grocery.
Apart from that, plastic bags also a major source of "water pollution". Plastic bags floating on the rivers or seas can cause harm to wildlife and aquatic animals. Plastics pollution has a direct and deadly effect on wildlife. Thousands of seabirds and sea turtles, seals and other marine mammals are killed each year after ingesting plastic or getting entangled in it. In many cases, these tiny bits pass through the digestive system and are expelled without consequence. Plastics have also been found to have blocked digestive tracts or pierced organs, causing death. Stomachs so packed with plastics reduce the urge to eat, causing starvation. We must stop pollute the sea with those non-biodegradable plastic bags.
We have been using plastic straws, which we know are harmful not only to the environment but also to our health. Another way to reduce the usage of plastic is by using metal straw rather than using plastic. A straw that made of metal, such as stainless steel will not break and does not rust. Stainless straw are easily reusable, highly durable and can last for years. For instance, nowadays straw is not provided at certain fast food restaurant right? That's why I always bring my metal straw inside my handbag. From this, I know this is a simple way to reduce the waste of landfills. Single use of plastic straw contributing hugely to landfills problem.
Next, in order to save the environment is by adopting the 3Rs of solid waste management which is reduce, reuse, and recycle. The most simplest method to start practice before it is too late. First, reduce means to decrease or minimize the use of something. For example, I buy less things at the market such as if I want to buy one water bottle then I will buy one and not buying extra cause it can cause pollution. Another example, reduce the excessive use of plastic bags that isn’t an eco-friendly material. A jute bag can be an alternative for polythene bags and metal lunch boxes can be used in place of plastics ones.
After that, reuse materials that are safe to be reused. It is a conventional reuse where the item can be used again for the same or new function. Reusing items saves my money. I still remember before my family and I move to new house we decided to use old boxes in stores rather than purchase new boxes when moving, reassemble those boxes that we've flattened, stored and pack our household goods. Re-using benefits us both financially and economically. Apart from that, I love using ceramic coffee mug instead of paper cups. Paper cups only allow us to used it once while ceramic mugs we can use it multiple times. Thus, reusing an item several times before repurposing or recycling it prevents waste.
The last and most popular step is Recycling. The process of converting waste materials into a new material or object that is useful is known as recycling. I have one memorable experience that I wanted to share in this journalπ. When I was 10,my classmates and I were joined a recycle competition in my school. We were so dedicated to win the competition. Before our class session start, we walked around the school to collect aluminum cans, plastic straw and newspapers. Not only that, we also went from class to class to see any possible things that can be recycle. We checked all garbage bin and dustbin around the school to find and collect recycle items. The sweetest part that I will not forget in my life. Fast forward, my class win that competition. I've gained a lot of knowledge and experiences. This is my new exploration about products that can be recycle, the importance of keeping the school compound clean and the benefits of 3R.
In conclusion, we must stop using plastic bags, practice bring metal straw anywhere and implement 3R which is reduce, reuse and recycle in daily lives. These are the ways to help combat the increasing pollution. In order to ensure our younger generation see the beauty of nature and the balance of ecosystem, we must take a serious action to save the world. Next, we need to practice using metal straw instead using plastic straw because it can reduce landfills waste. Last but not least, we must practice to bring jute or tote bag when grocery shopping.
Thank you for spending your time reading my journal π
